Yes. Claim the Life, the new, comprehensive youth curriculum for Sunday school, will be available July 2007. The new resources focus on spiritual formation, understanding, and discipleship. The teaching plans emphasize the 4 Rs: Relationships (with God and with one another as Christians), Rigor (the six-year plan helps youth understand and claim the faith), Relevance (SMART goals give youth a way to make the learnings from the lesson meaningful in their own lives), Ritual (names the time together as sacred).
The scope of Claim the Life is six years, "From Confirmation to Graduation": Year One: Journey, Year Two: Word, Year Three: Faith, Year Four: Promise, Year Five: Story, Year Six: Call. The first three years are specifically for younger youth; the next three, specifically for older youth. However, classes with combined age levels will be able to use the materials successfully, especially since each week has two teaching options.
Each lesson revolves around a single key word (or phrase) significant to claiming life as a Christian—words such as Commitment, Suffering, Simplicity, Blessing, Peace, Abundant Life, Humility, Abstain, Humility, Fruitful, to name only a few of the 192 in the six-year plan. Each lesson has two teaching options—“one big thing” (task or experience) or a discussion starter. As with Live B.I.G., media plays a significant role in the class experience:
The included CD-ROM/web components give teachers supplemental materials for each lesson, including additional background, tie-ins to various traditions, plus teaching tips, articles, demonstrations, and much more. Another unique benefit of Claim the Life is being able to stay in touch with youth and parents during the week. This e-mail feature provides youth with additional learning, encouragement, and accountability during the week. An additional e-mail gives parents suggestions for things to do and things to talk about with their son or daughter related to the lesson. Parents will be more supportive of getting their youth to Sunday school regularly because they know more about what the youth are learning.
